<description>"Any “Superferry activists” out there re-thinking their position?"

No.

In fact was looking for some more data to compare fuel costs between Hawaiian Air and HSF. Finding some neat stuff. Spoke with a Hawaiian Air engineer today.

Also, SeaLink which operates the Maui-Molokai ferry got approval from the PUC recently to start charging a fuel surcharge exactly the same that HSF has approval to charge but which is affraid of the demand destruction that the surchage might bring.

Found some neat data comparing jet fuel to marine diesel fuel and comparing HSF Rolls Royce waterjet engines to Hawaiian Boeing Rolls Royce jet engines. Referenced some of that over at the LA Times today. Will put up some more later.
